After four years of giving my son insulin by injections, he stated today that he wants his pump. "What"? I stumbled over my words.. Now we have had it before, and he immediatley wanted to take the pump out. I have to admit that I was a little relieved. So, for the last four years "pump"has been almost a forbidden word in our house hold..... I have tried to talk it up, but with his A1c's not being too awfully bad I have not been concerned. I have left it up to him. It is a big change. (yelp I am scaredy cat) I can't recall not giving him shots throughout the day. So we will see. I know with God's help we will adjust. I never thought I could give my son a shot either and that now has become a way of living. We can do it! (Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) Like anything else in my life I will find peace with it, and God will calm my fears...
Phillipians 1:2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Not a great day.....
*Warning: not all cupcakes and rainbows from this Momma*
Have you ever heard of the book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day? Well I am thinking of contacting Beverly Cleary (the author) and asking her if she will define a bad day just a little more for me because I am thinking I had one yesterday.
What seemed like a pretty normal day by all appearance's. My kids got up, I asked Ashton to take his blood sugar, which he said it was 124, I thought to myself great! Then he laughs and say "just kidding, it was 240"! I made breakfast, of course not pancakes like everyone wanted. I made eggs and oatmeal. Yeah for that one I was handed the worst mom of the year award...Thanks to my children for voting for me! Boredom was about ready to sit in, so I mentioned the wave pool!! Of course all four kids were ready to roll! We packed up ready for a day of waves and slide riding.... YAY.. Oh oops forgot to tell you the part where we didn't get packed up to leave until like 1:45, did not arrive there until after two.... but being the mother I am, I kept my cool and was fine with the time lost! Oh! When we got there all the slides were closed, still keeping my motherly cool! ( Do not believe a word of that, I am lying! I was totally freaking out)! Things were still okay, even though you might as well shot each of my children. I was able to convince them the waves were enough for us! Shortly there after we were ready to eat... I explain to Ashton that he knows what he can and cannot get... then it happened a total Celiac meltdown ( by that I mean he is sick to death of his diet and wants a bun on his hot dog). Now to most people that would not be a big deal but it is in this household. So after that little traumatic moment and we head back to the pool. I am thinking the time delay and the no slide thing is okay... whats that I hear? Thunder? Flipping fantastic! Did you guys know that I control the weather? Just ask my kids they will tell ya! So after all that we pack up and we are just fine with the barely three house pool stay!
So there it is, the day from the actual book! Now don't you think for a second I did not have to promise a make-up wave pool day...... fingers crossed that it turns out a little better than this!!!

Starting out.... a little intro:)
Today is my first day posting in a blog.. I am a little apprehensive about writing. I have never been much of a writer but I have always had a lot to say... Anyone who knows me knows me, knows that. What inspired this new writing journey was my son who is is Type 1 Diabetic and who also has Celiac Disease. I am the first person to tell you this does not define who my son is. He is so much more than these two diseases. However it is such a part of our lives that I am bursting to share our struggles and our joys with you. I will also be posting about other things as well. I have three other children so I have plenty of oh-oh's, funny stories and recipes to share... Okay I'm getting excited....So without further a due....here we go:)
I have been married for almost fifteen years and I am a mom of four crazy kids! Abby,Aaron, Ashton, and Aaden....now why did I chose all A names? I have no clue but boy has that been a tongue twister at times! They are great kids really but four kids is four kids and that turns into complete chaos at times! I am also a student at Liberty U. I almost have my Associates in Early Education, but I am not done there....I plan to further that into a Bachelors in Education. It is exciting and challenging.
My son Ashton was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in June of 2008. It was the month after he turned three and a day my heart literally stopped. Did you know your heart could do that? It was day that I became a certified shot giver...and a calculator of carbs. For the first time since I became a mother, I didn't know how to take care of my child. It was a confusing and scary time. I think this is the first time I have admitted that. At this point it has been four years and we have a routine and things are calm except for the highs and lows and realizing that he is different than other kids in his class. If this wasn't enough for him in March of this year he had several blood test and a biopsy that yelp confirmed Celiac Disease. Wow. Soooo we cleaned out our cabinets on the spot and began this huge gluten free lifestyle. This has been more of a transition for our house than diabetes was. My first thought was oh man, no Logan's bread, no Chinese? lol It is true .I quickly got on the internet and studied my behind off to educate myself on this disease and try to find recipes my kids would not hate me for. I have found plenty and believe it or not my kids have preferred them over what we normally eat! Sweet!
Okay gluten free pancakes is whats up this morning... Talk to you soon...
